Welcome to the world of Pinot Meunier. This Champagne is made with 100% Pinot Meunier grapes (the “first cousin” of Pinot Noir and the third member of the Champagne trinity – Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Pinot Meunier). It is fresh and lively with very fine bubbles. Citrus and hints of caramel dominate the palate of this layered and extremely elegant rosé.
Christophe Mignon is a soft-spoken, meticulous, passionate grower with nine hectares of parcels spread between Festigny and Le Breuil in the Vallée de la Marne. This is famous Pinot Meunier country. He has adapted a unique approach to his viticulture and winemaking, drawing on practices in biodynamics, phytotherapy (the use of natural extracts), and homeopathy. When we visited, we really got the sense that Christophe views his vines as creatures; he watches them, seems to listen to them, and works hard to nurture a healthy environment for them to thrive. To ensure the care of the vines, he employs one worker for each of his hectares, a very high ratio for any winemaking region. While eschewing any formal biodynamic certifications, Christophe’s work in the vineyards and inside the cellar is governed closely by lunar cycles.
